PGIMER, Chandigarh is a tertiary care referral center and a premier Institute in North India. A large number of mothers and neonates are referred from neighboring states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh , J&K, UP for better neonatal care . About 3500 deliveries take place in PGI every year and most of the cases who deliver here are high risk. Neonatology Unit was started in late 60’s and since then it is providing care to these high risk neonates. The division of neonatology started the superspeciality course in Neonatology, the first of its kind in India, in 1989.The candidates are exclusively trained in Neonatology for 3 years after their postgraduation.
